Port consists of 30 harbor basins for sea-going ships and 20 others for river crafts, with total water frontage of 105 mi and ample railroad connections; port serves as place of transshipment, distribution and warehousing for large hinterland reaching far beyond frontiers of Germany; two methods of transshipment are principally used, one being accomplished in midstream and other alongside piers; map showing harbor basins for transshipment from regular lines.
