This ranks as largest and most powerful passenger engine in Australasia; introduced with view to obviating double heading on interstate expresses and shortening running time of these trains between Melbourne and Albury; recently completed at workshops of Victorian Railways at Newport, Melbourne; hand-operated shaker or rocker grate with front drop grate is fitted, each side of grate being operated separately; engine frames are of caststeel bar type with forged-steel extension pieces bolted in.
