These coaches have been designed for service of difficult character on Kalka-Simla railway; no part of power unit is attached to car itself; engine is of 6-cylinder type with cylinders 5 1/2 in. bore by 6 in. stroke; develops 85 hp. at 1000 r.p.m.; transmission is by coned clutch from engine and shaft, with flexible joints to gear box, thence to reverse box, and from reverse box by silent chains.
