This new line, constructed with notable absence of heavy curves, brings Naples within 2 3/4 hours' journey of capital, as compared with 4 hours 25 minutes by old route; gradient profiles of " Direttissima" and old route between Rome and Naples; total length of line is 215-788 km.; line has been laid with 12-m. long rails of 46.3 kg. per m. (about 87.5 lb. per yard).
