On curves, flanges come up against inside face of head of corresponding rail and with more or less pressure; two surfaces are seat of rubbing slip which causes them to wear quickly; describes ingenious oiler designed and made by Buclon; strongly urges use of flange oiler especially on tracks where curves are of short radius.
