Just as rush-hour crowds were beginning to fill trains of Interborough Rapid Transit Co. subway at New York on evening of Aug. 24, two rear cars of southbound express train leaving Times Square station were derailed at switch south of station and thrown against partition wall separating express tracks from intermediate storage track to which switch leads.
