Observations during Second World War on certain types of radar " clutter" interference led to discovery that flocks of birds can produce substantial radar echoes, and that migratory flights of birds can be tracked by radar; this subject of "radar ornithology" has provided much new information about flight behavior of birds; it is now being used to assess hazards which birds present to low-altitude aircraft.
