Simple approximation methods for calculation of optimum train sequences are indicated and amplified; methods discussed include Vogel Approximation Method that permits compilation of timetable resulting in minimum total line occupation time, and Collins Rapid Approximation Method for approximate determination of optimum train sequences in event of delays on bottleneck sections; Collins method consists of simple algorithm and is indicated where train working is program-controlled by computer.
