Busways system consists of network of buses which circulate through residential communities of local pickup, then speed over reserved trunk lines to focal point of community, which is central business distinct; it can provide fast, comfortable service; system can be established quicker than most other high performance rapid transit systems and at one-half to one-tenth cost; comparison is made with automobile and with rail rapid transit; description of some busways studies in Atlanta, Boston, Memphis, and Portland.
