Results derived from study at Yale Bureau of Highway Traffic; study locations chosen provided two basic conditions: 90° alignment of vehicle to intersecting road, and zero vehicular speed at beginning of turn; maximum acceptable side friction factors; front and rear wheel paths took form of transitional spiral; minimum turning radii; correlation of turning paths with speed groups; characteristics of transverse placement.
