Mechanized freight handling equipment consisting of four electric industrial tractors, 389 trailers, two battery powered fork lift trucks and 3-ton capacity crane truck keeps freight moving along combination land-and-water route; 30-yr old tractors are equipped with 42-cell A8 Edison nickel iron alkaline storage batteries; batteries are charged in separate building by motor generators supplying d-c power.
