To avoid dismantling of wheel sets method is employed in America whereby brake shoes of driving wheels are removed and replaced by special holders carrying 1-in. thick, broadfaced cutting tools; locomotive is then towed by means of "Lidgerwood" haulage; work now performed in about onetenth of previous repair time.
