Tests with General Motors 1200-hp standard type diesel electric switching locomotive, on logging railways in British Columbia, demonstrated that diesel electric locomotive offers important advantages over steam, as concerns fuel and repair costs, labor costs, speed of operation and safety, with beneficial effect upon track structure through elimination of steam locomotive dynamic augment.
