Ignitron locomotives now in service on Pennsylvania Railroad; single phase a-c power from overhead trolley is rectified by means of sealed ignitron tubes, and d-c output of rectifier is supplied to series wound d-c traction motors that drive locomotive; each of locomotives is 6000-hp, 2-unit locomotive; each unit is rated at 3000 rail hp and is driven through six axles by six 500-hp d-c traction motors; circuit diagrams, performance curves.
