To provide assurance that no car leaves South Station with low battery and to precool sleeping cars which are held in station for convenience of passengers, New York, New Haven and Hartford installed standby power system for three of its tracks in its Boston, Mass, terminal; power is purchased from Boston Edison Co, brought in 13,800 v to transformer owned by Edison and located in tunnel under tracks; feeder distribution system.
