Editorial review of trend in post war marine engineering toward appreciable raising of power transmitted through single screw; Burmeister and Wain, Sulzer, MAN, P.Smit, Jr, Goetaverken, Fiat, and Doxford developments discussed; it is predicted that even if strong challenge comes from diesel propulsion in 8000/13,000-shp single screw range, geared turbine will hold its own for powers over 13,000 shp.
