Kort nozzle is annular shaped ring with airfoil cross section which surrounds propeller; in United States, its application remained confined largely to inland waterway and river use; Germans expanded use of Kort nozzle in large variety of military craft; improvement of nozzle accomplished in Germany by considerably increasing astern thrust and eliminating yawing tendency; 2000 ships equipped today with Kort nozzle; trials on models of ocean going tankers.
