It is concluded that various types are each characterized by particular value of load factor at which efficiency for corresponding compressor type is maximum and departure from which involves comparatively rapid loss of efficiency; data indicate that maximum efficiency increases from one compressor type to another of lower characteristic load factor; axial flow compressor is about 10% more efficient than centrifugal type.
