Initial flight testing of General Electric TG-100, first American gas turbine driving propeller, accomplished in Convair XP-81 airplane, during Dec 21 1945 to Dec 19 1946; problems encountered included starting, control, feathering, vibration, etc; conventional constant speed propellers and governors are not satisfactory for use with gas turbines; improvements in temperature control, starting, and service life needed.
