Latest service model (1948) is Vampire Mk 3 long range interceptor, with 3300-lb thrust Goblin 3; experimental Vampire 4 fitted with de Havilland Ghost turbojet of 5000-lb thrust has very fast take-off, but main mission is to serve as high altitude flying test bed for Ghost; there are two new assault versions of Vampire, Mk 5 and Mk 6, for RAF and Swiss respectively, powered by Goblin 3's; Sea Vampire 20 is similar to Mk 5 assault version but with Navy gear; Mk 21 for revolutionary deck landing experiments.
