28 single track or 17.5 route mi of electrified railroad for hauling 30 millions tons of relatively low grade copper-bearing ore between open pit mine at Bingham Canyon, Utah, and two copper concentrators at Garfield, Utah, were placed in operation May 1 1948; new system designed to handle 75-car trains at speed of 25 mph; 3000-v power is supplied to locomotives through compound catenary system supported by wood poles.
