In recent years, electric apparatus for trolley coach, street car, and rapid transit train has undergone complete transition; largest potential concentration of power in commercial land transportation is main line locomotives; many auxiliary services of railroads are becoming more dependent upon electricity; present use of electric equipment in land transportation exceeds 25 million horsepower.
