Screwed reinforced concrete columns up to 42-in. diam designed to resist horizontal strains, and loads up to 400 tons; it is claimed that Screwcrete system is particularly suitable for permanent structures, such as railway bridges and steamer piers, when speed in construction is important and where heavy concentrated vertical loads together with horizontal thrusts of considerable magnitude have to be resisted.
