Coast Guard solution of problem of stability is to mount horizontal airfoils on non-rotating swashplate of Sikorsky HOS-1 which hold swashplate in given plane relative to flight path in forward flight; plane of swashplate can be adjusted from cockpit by means of trim tabs to cover wide speed range; stabilizer holds aircraft in proper altitude for several minutes permitting pilot to operate radio, to navigate, to search or perform other operational duties.
