London Midland Region 4-cyl, 4-6-2 locomotive "Sir William A. Stanier, F.R.S." is provided with self-aligning spherical roller bearings to coupled axles; bearing is constructed to give max load capacity per unit of cross sectional area, though, at same time, maintaining race sections of adequate strength; bore is 11.02 in., diam 18.11 in., and width 5.75 in.; max load at rail is 22 tons 5 cwt, and locomotives are rated for max speeds up to 100 mph.
