Prefabricated method of track renewal on Southern Region of British Railways, in which complete 60-ft lengths of old track and new track are removed and laid, respectively, has been applied to work in tunnels and other confined spaces by introduction of new plant for lifting track in such places; its application in Polhill tunnel described.
