It is practice in technical departments of shipyards and classification societies to base calculations for uniform and equally spaced stiffeners on assumption that girder suffers no deflection, and to make girder more rigid than necessary, without obtaining less stress, because more correct method of calculation is considered laborious; how simple method can be made; only results of theory needed for designing purposes are quoted.
