Three C-3 type vessels reconverted from aircraft carriers by Welding Shipyards, Inc, Norfolk, Va; length oa 492 ft; breadth extreme 69 ft 7 in.; propelling unit consists of high speed, cross compound, double reduction geared turbine driving single screw, supplied with superheated steam from two oil fired, water tube, type D, 2-drum boilers fitted with economizers.
