Unconventional planform combines advantages of low aspect ratio and sweepback, both reducing drag; proposal for delta wing planform originated with A.LIPPISCH, German scientist; first delta wing to fly, Convair 7002, differs from Lippisch model in that it has fuselage housing pilot and power plant, and thin, airfoil shaped wing; test flights are continuing but results are not yet available; delta wing airplanes require very high attitudes for landing and takeoff.
