Development of propulsion system can be divided into three periods: reciprocating power plant; air breathing reaction power plant; rocket propulsion power plant; more knowledge of combustion is necessary; extended theory of elasticity to be applied to design of turbine blading needed; diagrams show speed range of various power plants at sea level, 20,000, 40,000, 60,000 and 80,000 ft.
