Starting at initial altitude of 15,000 ft, C-54 was put into dive of 40° with all four propellers in reverse pitch for air braking effect; touchdown accomplished in little more than 3 min from start of dive; comparison with conventional emergency landing of DC-4 which descended in tight spirals, touching runway in 5 min.
