Primary aerodynamic factors governing performance of hovering helicopter and how necessity to operate at reasonable forward speed restricts hovering; standard power relationships for hovering flight, as developed by GLAUERT and SQUIRE. are interpreted in graphical form, and effect of formed flight in limiting choice of aerodynamic and operational parameters, due to onset of blade stalling and compressibility, is illustrated by boundaries on these graphs.
