Railroads are making important reductions in overall time of freight en route by use of modern signaling facilities to minimize or eliminate time lost when cars are passing through yards or when trains are making meets at sidings; car retarders, power switches and signals have been installed in about 45 large classification yards to increase their operating capacity regardless of adverse weather; applications of signaling systems on line of road.
