Diesel electric tug, Paterson, built at Jakobson Shipyard, Oyster Bay for harbor fleet of Erie Railroad; length oa 101 ft 6 in.; breadth molded extreme 24 ft; depth 13 ft 6 in.; main power plant is 12-cyl G M model 278A Diesel, direct connected to 814-kw d-c generator furnishing current to 1000-hp propulsion motor which operates at 700 to 785 rpm; motor speed is reduced through Farrel-Birmingham gears to shaft speeds of 120 to 150 rpm.
