In Southern California internal combustion engines using natural gas as fuel generate 400,000 to 500,000 hp, chiefly in oil fields, pumping, and operating gas compressors; many small installations used during irrigating season; early applications in fuel oil engines converted to use of gas; servicing shown to be good investment on part of utility company.
