Adoption of very long lengths of welded rails has given rise to problem of stability of track; results of investigation showing that stability can be rapidly verified by means of table or graph; study of influences favorable to stability, effect of longitudinal frictional resistance, moment of inertia to be adopted, buckling action, and stability of permanent way on curves.
