Protection for highway traffic provided by Union Belt in Detroit, Mich, utilizes semiautomatic, short arm gates with bells and flashing light signals at three crossings and supervisory control of all crossings; latter is concentrated in watchman's towers at four streets, and consists of toggle type levers (keys) which, when actuated, set crossing protection in operation.
