It is suggested corrective measures being taken by market to put marine account on more even keel are beginning to take effect despite continued high incidence of casualties; contraction of reinsurance facilities consequent on calamitous losses inflicted by hurricane "Betsy", combined with marked hardening of rates, has led to greater circumspection and realistic appraisal of risks offered; among aspects discussed in more detail are changes in composition of world merchant fleet, rating of new ships, ship repairing liability risks, Suez Canal claims, increased premiums, extension of strike risks cover, and simplication of general average.
