Electric wheel vehicle propulsion system has several potential advantages in area of mobility, vehicle-design flexibility, and accomplishment of multiple functions; system developed by Delco-Remy Div has been applied to M-35 military vehicle; system consists of six-wheel mounted and unique brushless synchronous motors powered by engine-driven alternator; vehicle serves as testbed; subsystems examined include power train elements (engine, alternator, power converters, motors), dynamic braking system, engine alternator control loop, motor field control loop, and operator controls; preliminary test results are also reviewed.
