Progress of work done over past 30 yr on interference from motor vehicles is reviewed; early problems in development of instrumentation are described; test programs which led to development of standards designed to protect TV reception from vehicular interference; reference is made to European standards and reasons why it has been impossible to arrive at conformity between United States and European standards; changing criteria for interference which make it necessary to update presently used United States standard; compatibility of new specification with new international standard.
