Report describes Lane-Wells measurement system, gives results of preliminary investigation, and presents data illustrating how deflection basin is affected by variations in structural design of pavement; it also describes improved model of system developed in 1965 by Lane-Wells as result of their experience in this research; Lane-Wells Dynaflect consists of small two-wheel trailer containing dynamic force generator and equipped with set of motion-sensing devices; deflections of roadway, or other material beneath trailer, caused by cyclic downward force, are measured while trailer is halted briefly at each test location; described system is rugged, reliable, simple and economical in operation.
