Principal problem areas of solid-propellant combustion are outlined; each of problems may be studied directly by means of Crawford pressurized strand burner or refinement thereof, instrumented static firings of test rockets, and instrumented test flights with telemetered data; review of experimental techniques developed relating to temperature distribution studies, chemical composition distribution studies, and deductions from examination of suddenly quenched surfaces; idealized experiments relating to composite solid-propellant combustion, ignition studies, extinguishment studies, and acoustic interaction with combustion zone.
