Thrust level used to optimize rocket trajectory depends on value of "switching function" K(t), and thrust can have intermediate value only where K(t) is zero; necessary conditions for drag-free intermediate-thrust subarc (in plane containing inverse-square-law central force field) are pursued to point of graphical representation; paper introduces graphical approach to analysis of planar intermediate-thrust ("singular") trajectories in inverse-square-law field; some analytical results are included.
