Paper covers engineering approach to strength of materials as factors in large tire design; it also touches on some of engineering problems encountered in manufacturing, handling, servicing, and repairing, and illustrates economic advantages of large tires on large equipment; tire manufacturers are meeting challenge of large high load capacity tires for earthmoving industry; this involves adequate tire design and construction, designing and procuring of production facilities to manufacture these large tires for both original equipment and replacement requirements, addition of recap and repair facilities, and provision of necessary field service.
