Paper represents relatively thorough examination of statistical properties of horizon-sensor errors experienced by satellite vehicle, and attempts to derive simple and efficient filtering techniques and appropriate measurement schedules; essential operation is fitting of simple correlation-function models to true correlation functions exhibited by random processes; two methods are therefore given for generation of correlated random process on surface of sphere, for use in Monte Carlo simulations of variations of horizon altitude; numerical results demonstrate effectiveness of techniques.
