Discussion of possibility of developing low weight and volume superconducting electrical machinery for ship propulsion and power generation, considering range from submarines to surface ships and small craft such as hydrofoil boats; parameters of partially and fully superconducting generators, including cryogenic equipment, are suggested and generator designs are shown in diagrams; requirements for destroyer are considered more specifically, and comparisons are made with conventional electric drive.
