In marine engineering and shipbuilding, plastics are used for boats, hatch covers, sonar domes, electrical conduit, weather shields, propellers, gear wheels, ropes, anticorrosive coatings, adhesives, decorative panels, furnishings, etc; uses of plastic pipe; majority of plastics, whether or not they support casual combustion in flame, burn easily in conflagration such as shipboard fire; for this reason, Lloyd's Register of Shipping does not permit their use in fire extinguishing apparatus or for any services which are essential to propulsion or safety of ship.
