Demonstration of determination of scantlings, particularly to assess effect of small changes in location of transverse bulkheads; required basic parameters are length between perpendiculars, molded breadth, molded depth, summer molded draft, distance of longitudinal center of buoyancy from amidships (loaded condition), load displacement, light ship weight, weight of machinery in engine room (AP), and distance between center of gravity of (AP) and midships; capacity plan giving locations and volumes of cargo, ballast, and fuel spaces is also necessary; calculations are for collier with four holds, intermediate size bulk carrier having seven holds, and 40,000-ton dw bulk carrier with seven holds.
