Pt 1.A. Still water investigations into bulbous bow forms for fast cargo liner; basic shape of investigated bulbs was sphere, connected to ship in such way that original hull form was maintained as much as possible; ship was fast cargo liner of 150 m length; bulb of proper size reduces wave resistance by about 25 to 50%; application of faired bulb, shape resembling conventional bulbs, but whose cross section at fore perpendicular equals area of one of spheres, changed character of resistance curve.
