First author discussed structural fire protection in passenger and cargo ships; basic concept of fire protection and in particular as it concerns passenger ships, employment of vertical zones and one, or combination of two or more, of three internationally accepted methods of fire protection are described; second author deals with arrangements and equipment for fire fighting in passenger and cargo ships and modes of application of various appliances when fires do occur.
